This chapter was fact filled. The whole book has been filled with facts. There are so many things to learn about in this type of reading. You can learn so much from the life stories of other people.
The story of Ray is a very entertaining story. This chapter talkes about how the fast food nation was globalized and how it effected the companies profits. It is good that these companies are world wide because that way we can all share some of the same cultural foods. The way these companies advertise world wide is amazing. It really shows that we are all connected in a certain way. Maybe not personally but we are all connected in a business way.

Chapter 9 Fast Food Nation
Chapter 9 was kind of unapatizing if you ask me. The book so far has had alot of facts in it but this chapter had eye opening things thst made my stomach turn over numorus times. There are many things i knew about the meat industry that already made me a little queezey. But the things they said in this chapter were beyond my beliefs.
I know most people know how unhealty fast food meat is. But if you read this chapter you will never eat the fast food meet again. "There is shit in the meat." this quoote was the highlight of the reading. What it is saying is that in big processing plantsthe intestines get cut open and dung is splattered on the meat and it isnt washed off. That is gross! They should slow down the lines at the plants and make sure all the meat is carfully cut and clean before anything else is done with it.

Chapter 8 Fast Food Nation
This book keeps on getting more interesting as it goes on. The text is really making me turn against eating fast food. Although it tastes good it is gross. This chapter was mainly about the safety restrictions in the beef producig plants. It is just sad to know what some people went through just trying to support thier families.
The chapter was filled with things i didnt want to hear. For example it talks about how if a worker got hurt while working the company would tell them not to report that they got hurt. Why would you do that? If i was a worker there i would report it and hope the company got shut down. The workers are already getting paid at an extremly low rate for how many hours they put in and the risk of the job. Those people put thier lives in danger just so they would continue to be paid for work. To me that isnt fair to the workers. They deserve to be treated like normal people and not slaves. Chapter 6&7 Fast Food Nation
These two chapters hit very close to home. They told about the cattle industry and how it is used for produce in the fast food nation. The way they described the industrialized beef production and slaughter is right on the money. My dad hauls cattel to the kill plants. ive been with on several occasions.
Cattle have always been a big part of my life growing up. I was involved in things in the cattle industry that few people in my county were part of. I was a milk producer. You might not think it was that big of an industry but we did it for 50 years. The milk we produced was used at the American Milk Producers processing plant in Minnesota. It was an honor for me to be apart of that. It made me think i was helping the nation. What i was really doing was providing food for people just like fast food provided food for people. I may have hated the early mornings and late nights but it was all worth it. When you know you are helping people to survive it makes you feel like a good person. When the milk truckcame every other day i always had a chat with the driver as to how the government was using our product for much larger things than i knew about. Our milk was shipped to Land O Lakes and they are a sponsor of fast food chains. I was a contributor to the nation of fast food. We didnt contribute much; but it was a small proprtion that was filled. With this came the perks of cheese at a lower price along with the free milk i got for breakfast every morning from the tank. Some people think that its gross; but man did i love it!
When they talk about the slaughter houses in chapter 7 is right where it needs to be. The lsaughter houses are a discusting place. The smell is so riveting in your nose at the loading chute your stomach turnes over 4 times moe than normal. If you think the local butcher shop smells bad in the back wait till you smell the slaughter houses in the city. It is about 10 times worse. It has gotten better over the years with the new regulations they have to follow but it is still bad.

Fast Foof Nation Chapter 4&5
This reading was quite an eye opener because of the stories that were told about the people. The story that caught my attention the most was in chapter 4. The begining of chapter 5 was interesting because it gave a inside story on how things from small towns have a big effect on things.
When chapter 5 starts off it tells of the potatoes that the fries are made out of. The people of my home town can relate to this type of situation. We had a potatoe plant here and it was about the same size as the one in Idaho. We may not have had as much production but we still had the connections to the chains of food places.
In chapter four i found the steps to becoming and owner in a franchise was a strenuous process. When it explained how Kroc sold people into becoming a franchise owner i was dumbfounded. Who would have thought that you would have to pay the boss you work for every year just so you could work for him? In some fastfood chains you had to pay 15,000 dollars a year just to ouw part of the franchise. i think that is a little ridiculou myself. Reading 2 of Fast Food Nation Chpt. 2&3
These chapters started off telling a very intersting story. It told of when Ray Kroc and Walt Disney started. This incredible story was moving because of the backround that booth of these men had. The way they became friends and partners is just outstanding. Walt Disney is an unusual character. he liked to draw cartoons and for that to be a living was different to people. When reading the onformation the point is made that salesmanship is the key to start a trend. Ray Kroc for example found this out very eraly in the game of business. He had his products trending with the big name comanies and he was starting to become wealthy because of that talent. He wanted to go bigger and more braud range when he made it to the big time. He wanted the fast food chain of McDonalds to be nation wide to make more money for the franchise. There is nothing wrong with that. The more money the better right? That wasnt the case with Ray. he wanted the costomers to be happy before he made any kind of big mooney off of them.Ray had things figured out as well as Walt.
The next big thing about the reading was the section in chapter 2 about the targeting of children in advertising. The point was well put accros that people didnt like big name companies targeting the young inocent minds of children. Seeing this point there are other things to consider about this. One being that i have learned that the teelevision was watched as a family back in the earlier days. So therfore the commercials were also watched by the parents and not only the child. What if some parents saw the comercial and thought it would be a great idea to take their kids to the place being advertised? The point i am making is that the ads were made for childre ;correct, but on the other hand the parents also watched them and had an impact on them as well. The children were targeted but the parents were influenced by them.
In chapter 3 it starts off by talking about the towns of colorado and how they were becoming bigger. When it talks about the towns growing because of fast food resturants the facts are un real. Chapter 1 of Fast Food Nation
The first chapter of the book was very eye opening in the first 10 pages. I found it to be packed with early history that alot of people probably didnt know about.
I found the history of the automobile industry to be the most interesting to my senses. Who would have thought that Los Angleles would have more cars in the city itself that the other 41 states at the time; thats outstanding! The year is only 1940; wich in my eyes in a long time ago becuase that is the year that my grandpa was born and he is still kicking today. At my house we have a few cars from back in that era and to think how dangerouse they are to drive now just leads me to think that driving back then would have been hazardes to pedestrians on the sidewalks trying to use the public transportation.
When you look at itdriv in movis are rarley played around here anymore. Why wouldnt they still have it? What was the real reasion for them to be shut down? We still have drive thru eating but why dont we have drive in movies? There are always questions to be asked about eraly automotive ideas that vanished like a ghost.
I never knew the Hells Angles came from this timme period. I mean i have heard of the group but i thought they were from later down the road. It's funny how you can hear of something when you are little and not really know how old or how big something is until you get older. For example, i never knew that there were still peoople dying from radiation in japan. I knew we dropped a bomb but i thought the things just exploded not had radiation and killed eople for the next 50 years. Thigs like that really make me wonder how big some other events were but people never realized it.
I can totally see the technology era coming into play now. They went from having people go out and take your order; to people working in stations to make food; and finally to the phone the chef. Thigs were moving along pretty fast in those days. I honestly cant believe some of the stories behind the people who came up with these ideas of new technology.
Talk about a success story. Carl had the most interstling life i could think to live in that era. He was an icon it seems like. He was always thinking of the next best thing to hang with the bigger chains. He was a pioneer the way i look at it. I enjoyed the first chapter of this book and i look forward to reading the rest of it.

Final LOTF Blog
The end of the book is now here and it is a good ending to this story. With all the savagery and uncivlization in this story it really makes a person think.
Whe i look at what this story says about the way we live today it makes things more clear. When Jack turns savage and mad it refelcts on todays society. When he first kills the pig it was hard; but the second time it got easier and easier averytime he did it. It happens today in life too. When a person commits murder they have a hard time doing it the first time. Then when the second time comes around they can do it more easily. The reason they can do it easier and they same goes for Jack is because you get over that foist wall of fear. The fear that is holding what is inside of you back. Everyone has rage and anger built up inside of them. Its just chosing the right time and place to let it out is the important thing.
The same goes for keeping hope and faith. The boys did alright with keeping those two things at the beginning when they were one big group. But when Jack made his own group just for the hunters it split the boys in half. The ones that had hope stayed with Ralph and the ones that started letting the built up rage out went with Jack. When the boys were slplit there were arguments about everything. There was murder of two boys and a big fight.

Lotf blog 6
Things are really starting to heat up around the camp. There was murder and real savagery involved in this reading. Jack i think has completely lost it and has now taken over. When looking at this now i think they will never get rescued.
The boys have now killed one of theirown because they have all gone so far away from civilization they dont know what to do. The only person that knew anything in the group is now dead. They killed simon and now will probably be lost. Simon knew things that the rest of them didnt know. Simon had that spirit like way about him wich made him more of an inteligent person. When they kill Simon Ralph is the only one that later noticecs what they have actually done. They have killed someone because they are so crazy.

Reading 3 of LOTF
This reading made even more connections to everyday life. The book is now connecting to modern day life more and more as the book progresses.
Jack is becoming more of a physo it seems like. He keeps the mask on and he walks around with his spear all the time. He is starting to do things his way or he doesnt do them at all. He has a group of other boys and they serve as the hunters of the colony. Jack is behind the mask so he isnt Jack right now; he is someone else. he is using it to brake away from the rules of society a little bit becasue there are no adults. Jack is more concerened about hunting and killing than he is getting off the island. Ralph on the other hand has his sights set on getting out of the aive and in good condition. He views this a a minor setback in life and it will be fixed in no time. Jack on the other hand wants to live in the forest and hunt and be a wild animal.
I just see Jack being the better leader out of him and Ralph. The little ones are not helping matters any because they wont do anything the most they is eat fruit and play in the sand

Reading 2 of Lord of The Flies
In this reading thoe boys are beginning to refelct more and more on todays society. For example; the small children are running around playing and the older boys are working. Ralph is supposed to be the leader of the boys and he has not taken charge yet. He thinks that because he said all these things have to be done the other boys will automatically do it. He needs to make the rules and tewll the younger kids whats going on.
This resembles todays society because if we didnt have a leader we would live in a chaotic place. There would be no order. Thats what the presidents job is in our society. He keeps everything running smooth in the government and wich in return makes other things in life go smoother.
I think that Jack would make a better leaader than Ralph. I think this because he is is more of a go getter than Ralph is. jack wants to get things done and take charge. I think he would make a good leader for this group of boys.

Chapter 1: Lord of The Flies, pages 1-32
Chapter 1 of the book was a real attention getter. it really made great points that you really have to pay attention to to understand. The book states in different ways how these events relate to real life situations.
For example; When the boys all come together after Ralph has blown the conch they demostrate a common socitety. The use a voting system to elect a leader of the group. In todays society they elect a leader wich we all know is he president who runs the country. They elected Ralph to be the leader because he was the one who brought them all together in the first place. Jakck on the other hand didnt get elected because of the way he said he should be the leader of the group. Jack has the personality of a leader on the outside, but on the inside he is no different from any of the other boys.
Another way they show a modern day societyis with the difference in social classes amoong the group pf boys. There are many different social classes among the boys. There are the boys who are big and strong and who will lead the group. Then there are the younger more imature kids that just follow the older ones so they would be the followers of the society they have goinng on the island. in modern day society there are the different social classes. in todays society there are the higher class people the middle class people and the people who are at the bottom.

6th Reading of Great Expecations
We are now almost to the end of the book. Its a grat shame to be almost finished with the book. This reading shows alot of charicter and personality of Pip. There were many events once again in the reading.
Pip is traveling through the path and its very foggy and heavy out side. It sounds just like an old horror movie right. Im thinkin htta ok Pip is about to get injured or killed. So he is walking and he ventures into an old antiquated stone yard. He is looking around. and heaven knows what he was doing there in the first place on a night tlike that anyways. Just as i had predicted his candle gets blown out and a rope around his necka nd he is now in yerror, screaming for help but no one is going to come and save him. A flame is struck and the light lights up the cold and wicked face of Orlick. Now im thinkin that he is going to pull out a murder wepon out and kill him. I am thinking this is the end of Pip. But he doesnt. He starts accusing pip of coming inbetween him and a young woman he liked. He also confesses to Pip that he is the one that killed Mrs. Joe. This comes as a shock to me because i thought he would kill Pip and not Mrs. Joe. Just for the fact that maybe he would just go straight to pip instead of messing around with klilling Mrs. Joe. He tells Pip he will have his revenge . Im thinkin at this opoint. You idiot; you have him tied up why dont you just kill him already. I mean if i was a cerial killer i would just do it and get it over with.
So they are sittingg there and Orlik is telling him all the so called complaints he has. He goes over and takes a drink of liquor and then picks up a rock hammer and gives Pip the look that he is going to kills him. I am thinking that he is going to finally at this point. He starts coming at Pip witth the weapon and just as he is about to be killed. Herbert busts in to the scene with a group oif men to save the day. They are like to old day justice league. There is a big fight but Orlik escapes. But i found it unusual that Pip and the group pf men did not go after him. They went back to the house to make sure that Magwiches escape goes well.

5th Reading of Great Expectations.
This reading was on my lis tone of the best so far. It was eventful and very moving.
Pip is waitng in the mean time for the signal from Whemick to send Magwitch down the river. He still refuses to spend any of the money and his debts pile up on him. He is also devestated when he finds out the marrige of Estella to Dremmil. I dont know why he would be devestated because he was never trated right by her and they werent even dating to begin with. If i was Pip i would feel sorry for the guy that ended up with the unfortunite marrage. Pip still feels bad about the way he treated Biddy. If i was Pip i would be fmore focused on trying to go after Biddy because she is someone tht he can be treated well by and he will be happy with.
Pip is invited to dinner at Jaggers. He recieves a note from Mrs Havisham. When Mr. Jaggers starts talking about the marrage of Estella Molly walks in and he realizes that she is the person he could not picture. She rezembles Estella because she is her mother. He finds it kind of hard to belive. On his way back to the Pockets house he asks his friend about Molly. He finds out that she was accused of murduring a woman and a daughter to try to hurt the husban. Pip thinks that Estella is the lost daughter. Its sounds to me that Estella was taken in by Mrs Havisham and that she was raised just like Pip was raised by hi sister. It sounds like the kind of same thing to me. Mrs. Havisham is very sorry that she made Estella break his little heart, but i think it was for the better of Pip. He doesnt need someone like that in his life right now. She beggs at his feet when he comes to visit her next time. He is at least a nice guy about it and forgives her for what she did yo him.
Mrs. Havisham catches on fire. It seems kind of strange that she would do that after what she did to Pip. Pip sees that she is swarmed in by the flames and he rushes to the rescue and trys to save her. He takes the table cloth from the feast and pounds the flames out. She lives and Pip stayes with her till the doctors leave. The next morning he leaves for London. If i was Pip i wouldve just walked away from the fire because she tried to kill her self. Pip should just leave all of the things that happened in the village and at Mrs. Havishams behind him so that he can move on the bigger and better things. He is 21 and he needs to start living his own life outside of where he came from.
Pip is waitng in the mean time for the signal from Whemick to send Magwitch down the river. He still refuses to spend any of the money and his debts pile up on him. He is also devestated when he finds out the marrige of Estella to Dremmil. I dont know why he would be devestated because he was never trated right by her and they werent even dating to begin with. If i was Pip i would feel sorry for the guy that ended up with the unfortunite marrage. Pip still feels bad about the way he treated Biddy. If i was Pip i would be fmore focused on trying to go after Biddy because she is someone tht he can be treated well by and he will be happy with.
Pip is invited to dinner at Jaggers. He recieves a note from Mrs Havisham. When Mr. Jaggers starts talking about the marrage of Estella Molly walks in and he realizes that she is the person he could not picture. She rezembles Estella because she is her mother. He finds it kind of hard to belive. On his way back to the Pockets house he asks his friend about Molly. He finds out that she was accused of murduring a woman and a daughter to try to hurt the husban. Pip thinks that Estella is the lost daughter. Its sounds to me that Estella was taken in by Mrs Havisham and that she was raised just like Pip was raised by hi sister. It sounds like the kind of same thing to me. Fourth reading of Great Expectations
Ths reading coverd the chapters of 32-45. Its was a great and eventfull reading.
In the first part of the reading Pip gets a suprising letter from Estella ordering him to meet ther at the London train station. I find this to be very odd because of the fact that she doesnt like Pip as far as i can tell from the way she treats him at Mrs. Havishams house. If Pip likes her so much why doesnt he just confront her about the feelns he has about her to her face so maybe she wont treat him with such ignorance and hatred all the time. Pip gets to the train staion to find Wemmick standing there. Pip is suprised to see him there as well. Wemmick takes Pip on kind of a short tour around the Newgate Prison. Now in Pips defense i am kind of seeing something fishy going on with Wemmick taking him to meet a person that is sentanced to be hung. Just for the reason that maybe Wemmick is trying to say something to Pip. Pip finally meets up with Estella after the short tour he had of the prison. Pip still doesnt really know why she treats him with sucjh direspect. He is just too much in love with her to realize half of the things she does to him when they are together. He feels that it is his destiny to be married. I myself think that is just the foreshadowing coming intop play from when earlier in the book Mrs. Havisham always has them together doing thing and being together just so they can have something that she never had in ther life. Pip later walks her under the dim light streets of London and tries to make it kind of romantic but just as usuall Estella just gives him to cold shoulder and doesnt even trat Pip as if he is a human being.
When Pip returns back to the Pockets that night he is notified that Mrs. Joe has died and Pip returns home immediatly the next day for the funeral.

Reading 3 of Great Expectations
This reading covered pages 113 to 176 in the book. I found this part of the book to be more of an understanding part of life for Pip. He is starting to be more open minded abput going to London and he wakes up every morning and has bright thoughts about the trip. When he goes back to say goodbye to Mrs. Havisham he is locked in the courtyard because he is visiting unexpectedly. When Pip goes top say goodbye he is is kind of sad that he has to leave from the coountry side, but on the other hand he wants to go to London to become a gentleman.
Mr. Pumblechook invites Pip to his house for a celebration dinner and for wine to celebrate. I myself would not take the offer of food because of the way he is trated by Mr. Pumblechook. He treats him like he has no respect fo his personal being. For example when they are at dinner in the beginning of the book he is always putting Pip down and telling him he is always wrong.
I feel that there might be a chemistry between Biddy and Pip bcause of the way they feel about eachother. Biddy has feelings for Pip and she feels with a great amount of love towards Pip. Pip on the other hand doesnt have as strong of feelings toward Biddy.
When Pip is in London he finds out that the high life is all it cracked up to be. The

Reading 2 of Great Expectations
In the second reading of this book i am starting to get the hang of reading at the level of vocabulary the Charles Dickens uses.
I found this reading to be just as eventful as the first. In the beginning of this reading Pip goes the the bar to get Joe and he finds that Joe is sitting with Mr. Wopsel and a strange but familiar man. Pip sees the man and gets the same feeling that you would get when you see someone on the street and they say hello but you cant say hello back because you cant match a name with the face. The stranger goes to stir his rum and he stirs it with a file and gives Pip one of those half threatening grins that would scare a young boy of his age. If i were Pip i would've confronted the man about the file and turned him in as an escaped convict from prison. I think that Later on in the story maybe towards the end of the book the convict or a friend of the convict will cause a conflict in the end making the end of the story a total left turn to what we expect it to be. When Joe and Pip stand up to leave and the stranger says wait a minute i thought he was going to tell them who he really was. But he does the total opposite and gives them money. If i was Pip i wouldn't have taken the money because he knows its coming from a crook and an escaped convict. If someone does that in to days society you would get arrested for robbery and vandalism or something would be charged against you in some way. When Joe shown the notes to Mrs. Joe she tells them to take them back to the man. I find it mysterious that the man has just left from the bar after giving the money to Joe and Pip.
The Next day Pip has to go back to Mrs. Havisham's house. Pip is taken a different route this time to a different part of the house. I would have been a little worried if i was him because of the fact that it is such a big house and he has never been to this part of the house and he is taken into a dark and unlit room. When the author describes the room and the people in the room it makes me think that this house is like a place for those who don't have any friends and are a little wacky in the upstairs part of the body. When the people are sitting round the table and are talking. They are going from one subject to another like a bunch of bird brains. When they start looking at Pip he is made fun of in a certain way that they understand. I feel that there are allot of up coming events about to take place in the house of Mrs Havisham.

Reading 1 of Great Expectations
I found the first 55 pages of this book to be quite eventful not only in the advanced vocabulary but the evens that happen. We meet an orphan boy named Pip. He lives with his sister who is married to a blacksmith. When we first meet these two i feel that they are poor and have no money. When We meet his sisters husband Joe the blacksmith he seems like a nice guys so far.
The first even that happens is Pip meets a very Scary and strange man. I think that this man will have something to do with the plot and setting of the story. I think he will effect the setting because he is always in the marshes and that takes Pip to the marshes which changes the setting. I think he will have a strong effect on Pip in the story because he is making him steal things from his own family. He makes Pip steal food from his sisters pantry and steal a file from Joe. I often thought of why the man had an iron on his leg.
When they have Christmas dinner at Pips house he is very observatory about when his sister goes by the pantry or out of the room. When i think of Pip i think of some kind of little mouse who is quiet and doesn't have much to say but is curios about everything. He questions every thing but never says anything else about anything.
